Galerie Antoine Ertaskiran is proud to present within its walls Jacynthe Carrier’s second solo exhibition, brise glace soleil blanc, featuring a video and a series of photographs. This new body of works continues the artist’s explorations on the different relationships that exist between the body and the environment and the various ways in which we see and appropriate space. Through staging, which incorporates artistic direction, improvisation from the performers and choreographed movements, the artist questions ways to embody the landscape.

A double projection, presented in the second exhibition space, showcases a video that has been created in two phases. Near a river, two duos stride and compose tangible and imagined landscapes. From those encounters remains the otherness in spite of the performers’ physical search as they confront the landscape. The photographic series exhibited in the main space brings forward a narration where different contrasts take place. Dreamlike and fragmented, an energy is generated from the tension between hot and cold, frozen and liquid, man and woman, softness and dryness or colour and black and white.

Rather than adopting a contemplative approach as they move around in brise glace soleil blanc, the performers are asked to establish a direct relationship with the elements. Through physical and sensorial actions such as destroying, striking or intruding, they leave traces in this environment, shaping a psychological and emotional landscape. Time lengthens while the elements resist the repetition and the persistence of the performed gestures.
