Jacynthe Carrier

Jacynthe Carrier uses photography and video to examine the different relationships between the body and the environment, as well as the way we conceive and absorb landscape. Whether urban or rural, landscape is a topic that has been adopted in her work as a place of recreation and of the “still-possible.” She creates different types of interventions in which bodies and objects unite in performative situations and mises en scène. She develops contemporary allegories, stories that bring myths together — both everyday and personal, popular and shared — in an attempt to re-appropriate a certain portion of the space.

Jacynthe Carrier holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from Concordia University. Her work has been presented as part of many solo and group exhibitions including at the Fresnoy (France), La Triennale Québécoise 2011, the 4th Manifestation internationale d’art de Québec, Centre CLARK, Galerie de l’UQAM, Musée régional de Rimouski, and Bang Centre for contemporary art. Her work was shown by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and as part of exhibitions held in France, Canada, Brazil and the United States. She has participated in the 8th Manif d’art – La biennale de Québec in 2017.Her work is found in many private and museum collections such as the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the Sid Lee, Cirque du Soleil, Hydro-Québec, Caisse Desjardins collections, and many more. Jacynthe Carrier was nominated for a Sobey Art Award in 2013 and received the 2012 Pierre-Ayot Award and the 2015 Prix Videre Création. She was recently nominated to the Sobey Art Award 2017.
